Find out about a project that will improve safety and reduce delays at the intersection
of Apperson Drive (Route 11) and Orchard Drive in Salem. The project entails
installing a new traffic signal at the intersection and coordinating it with the nearby
signal on Route 419. A new right turn lane from eastbound Apperson Drive onto
southbound Orchard Drive also will be constructed. Eastbound Apperson Drive
approaching its intersection with Orchard Drive will be reconfigured to provide a right
turn lane, a through lane and a left turn lane.

the form of a Programmatic Categorical Exclusion at VDOT’s Salem District Office
located at 731 Harrison Avenue in Salem, 540-387-5353 1-800-FOR-ROAD, or
TTY/TDD 711. Please call ahead to ensure the availability of appropriate personnel to
answer your questions.
The hearing will be held in an “open-house” format and VDOT representatives will be
present to answer questions. Property impact information, relocation assistance
policies and tentative construction schedules are available for your review at the
above address and will be available at the public hearing.
