Published an Op-Ed Addressing the Surge of Criminal Illegal Aliens in Virginia
One of Governor Spanberger’s first actions in office was to strip away Virginia’s 287(g) cooperation agreement, which made it easier for state and local law enforcement to work with federal immigration officers. Removing that policy turned Virginia into a sanctuary state, and our communities have suffered ever since. My op-ed details the many cases of violent criminal illegal aliens, some with active ICE detainers, who are released back onto our streets, where they continue to commit crimes and endanger our communities. I also discuss my bill to restore the 287(g) agreement and bring back safety and order to our Commonwealth.
Voted in Appropriations to Protect Nursing’s Status as a Professional Degree
During last week’s session in the House Appropriations Committee, I supported an amendment to keep advanced nursing degrees on the Department of Education’s “professional degrees” list. In rural communities like the Sixth District, nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. The amendment responds to a 2026 Department of Education decision that left nursing off the professional degrees list, making it harder for aspiring nurses to secure the student loans they need. The amendment passed in Committee, and I am proud to support efforts to make nursing degrees more accessible and affordable for Virginians.
Exposed the SPLC’s Abuse of Donor Trust
For years, the Southern Poverty Law Center raised money by claiming to fight extremism. A federal indictment now alleges the organization secretly funneled more than $3 million in donor funds to individuals tied to the very violent groups it claimed to oppose, all while branding mainstream Christians and conservatives as hate groups. When I questioned the SPLC’s CEO in a Judiciary hearing, he dodged my questions and refused to answer for the organization’s coordination with the Biden Administration. House Republicans have documented that coordination, including efforts to target conservative Americans for their beliefs. I will continue to support efforts to hold this organization accountable and to protect Americans from politically motivated abuse of power.
Cosponsored Legislation Creating SNAP Exception for Hot Rotisserie Chicken
Millions of hardworking Americans rely on SNAP to put healthy, nutritious food on their families’ tables. Current law bars SNAP recipients from using benefits on prepared foods, but the bill I cosponsored creates a sensible exception for hot rotisserie chicken. This change gives families access to an affordable, ready-to-eat meal that saves them time and money. It is a commonsense, bipartisan fix that delivers real value for the Americans who depend on this program.
