The Salem High girls dropped a 2-1 soccer game to Christiansburg on the Blue Demons’ home pitch Tuesday.

The Spartans trailed 2-0 at the half and attempted to regroup at intermission. Annie Bond scored off a pass from Abby Pitts but that was as close as the Spartans would get.

“Good conversations about needing to do the simple things, play to feet and make tight in the back,” said coach Kayla Wood. “Those adjustments helped and the second half was better.”

Last Friday the Spartans tied Patrick Henry at Merrill Gainer Stadium in Roanoke. Again Salem was shut out in the first half and went into the locker room trailing 1-0. The Spartans scored in the first minute of the second half off a Brooke Bowers corner to Audrey Hayes. Then Bond scored off a feed from Avery Mangus to put Salem up 2-1, only to have PH score off a corner kick. Two overtimes decided nothing and the game ended in a draw. Allison Kessel had four saves for the Spartans.

Salem will be back in action Friday with a home game against Hidden Valley.
