A book signing of a new collection of poems by Mary Katherine Williams will be held at the Paint Bank General Store in Paint Bank, Va., on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

“The Ballad of Maggie Tingler and Other Poems” contains over 50 original poems of the area. Through ballads, sonnets and other verse forms, the poems tell stories of people, places, nature and events in Craig, Alleghany and Monroe counties, and especially Paint Bank where the author lives.

Maggie Tingler, the title ballad, was a courageous woman from Paint Bank in the early 1900s who prevailed over hardships.  The poignant story of Lone Star, who was captured by the Indians in the early 1800s and was later returned to Alleghany, is also featured, along with patriots from World War II, including six men from Covington, Va.

Special introductory pricing of $10.50 per book will be in effect through the holidays at the Paint Bank General Store.  The book can be pre-ordered and mailed (including postage and handling) by the store in time for Christmas by calling 540-897-5000 or via email (contactus@paintbankgeneralstore).
