The Salem High girls’ lacrosse team saw their five game winning streak come to an end with a loss to Blacksburg in a tight game Monday. The Bruins took a 9-8 win at Spartan Field.
“Great game,” said Salem coach Mary Schwartz. “Best game we played this year, just came up a little short.”
Salem held an 8-7 lead with 1:37 to go but the Bruins were able to score twice before the horn to pull out the win. Anne Thomas had three goals for Salem, Madison Southern had two and two assists and Bailey Redford had eight saves, five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Last Thursday in Lynchburg the girls had a big win over E.C. Glass, topping the Hilltoppers 13-3. McNeill had four goals and Ashlyn Davis had four assists for Salem.
The Spartans, now 5-2, are now off until next Monday when they host Hidden Valley in a doubleheader with the boys, beginning at 5:30 pm.
