The Roanoke College women’s soccer team fell at home, 1-0, to visiting Christopher Newport University in non-conference play as both teams battled rainy conditions at Salem’s Kerr Stadium. The game’s start time was moved back an hour due to the inclement weather.
The Captains’ Grace Shifflett punched in a goal in the 22nd minute which would end up as the only score of the game. Rebecca Carr fired off two shots on goal for the Maroons and keeper Grace Suchy notched four saves.
With the win, Christopher Newport improved to 6-1-3 on the season and the Maroons fell to 5-3-3. Roanoke will hit the road this week with a game in Lynchburg against Randolph College on Wednesday and a trip to Virginia Beach to take on Batten University on Saturday.
Batten is the former Virginia Wesleyan University.
The next home game is Wednesday, Oct. 14, against Hollins University.
