Signups are now being taken for the 49th Annual Smith Mountain Lake Fishing Tournament, set for May 5th-7th, 2017 and sponsored by the Challenger Little League Baseball Group.

As always the CLLB group is committed to promoting the best fishing tournament possible by doing everything in its power to ensure everyone has a fair chance to win.  Working hard to the continued growth of this tournament, ideas always are moving and the group strives to bring the best fishing tournament to Smith Mountain Lake. Organizer Sid Witt II hopes the efforts will attract more participation and also promote more family involvement. The integrity of the SML fishing tournament is top priority for CLLB, as the name represents a very incredible group of young people.

The Challenger Little League Baseball program (CLLB) is a 501©(3) non-profit division of Little League Baseball that provides boys and girls 4 years of age and older, with Mental and/or Physical Disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the great game of baseball just like any other child. This organization, now in its 27th year, gives Children with Mental and/or Physical Challenges the opportunity to experience the rewards of being part of an athletic team, while motivating and increasing emotional development, high self-esteem, confidence and pride.

All money raised goes directly to the athlete’s and benefits the children of this league. Unlike other divisions of Little League Baseball, CLLB provides the registration fees, charter fees, complete uniforms, all equipment, individual & team pictures, trophies, awards, and many other benefits. The local CLLB District 12 includes Roanoke City, Salem City, and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Franklin (Rocky Mount), Montgomery, Alleghany (Clifton Forge & Covington), Highland, Bath, Craig, Giles, Floyd, Henry, and Rockbridge. To learn more about this special group feel free to visit the website at … www.challenger-baseball.org. Information on how to register for the tournament can be found on the web-site.

“To all who have fished or have been a part of this great tournament in the past, thank you so much for your assistance and participation and to help to make the tournament a success,” said Witt. “Your support truly makes a difference for an incredible group of young athletes. I look forward to seeing you all on the water May 5th, 6th , & 7th for the  49th Annual Smith Mountain Lake Fishing Tournament.”
