The Roanoke College men’s soccer team picked up their first win to remain undefeated last Sunday, taking a 2-0 win over Shenandoah in Winchester. The Maroons are now 1-0-3.

After opening the season with three double overtime draws, the Maroons would out-shoot their hosts 11-3 for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference win. Roanoke would get out to a quick start with just over 16 minutes gone when Anthony Zarlenga found Joe Carman for a 1-0 advantage. Less than 10 minutes into the second frame, a Hornet foul would lead to a Roanoke penalty kick. Dylan Berk scored on the PK and the Roanoke lead grew to 2-0.

The Maroons defense would make the two scores hold up as they only allowed one shot to make it to keeper Zach Behe. In addition to leading in shots, Roanoke enjoyed a 10-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Carman would put three of his four shots on net to pace the Roanoke offense.

Roanoke will be back home this Sunday to host Ferrum College at Salem’s Kerr Stadium at 3:30 pm.
