The Roanoke College women’s soccer team came from three goals down to stun Shenandoah Sunday at Kerr Stadium in Salem, 4-3. The win was the first for the Maroons, evening their record at 1-1-1.

Shenandoah led 1-0 at the half and two goals 1:08 apart, the second on a penalty kick, gave the Hornets a 3-0 edge. Shenandoah held that lead with just over 30 minutes to go when Roanoke’s MC Petrucelli took a pass from Ellie Schad to score her first collegiate goal and cut the lead to 3-1.  Schad made it a one-goal game when she scored her first of the season off an assist by Mia Clary and the Maroons were back in the game.

Roanoke completed the comeback when Tessa Walsh set up a second score by Petrucelli. The match appeared headed to overtime as the clock hit 88:00, but Roanoke was awarded a corner kick and Eliza Ryan went to the corner and sent a perfect pass into the zone. The ball would bounce off players from each team before finding the foot of Petrucelli, and the freshman netted the game winner, giving her the hat trick on the afternoon.

Carrington Lippi was awarded the win in net, recording four saves.

The Maroons are back home today to host Emory & Henry at Kerr Stadium at 4 pm. On Sunday Bridgewater is here for a 1 pm game.
