Clarence “Chucky” Brown,  who played professional basketball for 14 years, will be the featured speaker at the Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting on Monday, April 16, at the Salem Civic Center.

Brown is one of three players who hold the NBA record for the most teams (12) played for during his 12 year NBA career.  He played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Charlotte Hornets two different times during his career.  His other two years of professional basketball included playing for the Grand Rapids Hoops and Yakima Sun Kings in the Continental Basketball Association.

When Brown retired, he coached for three teams over a period of six years, including two years as assistant coach for the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBA Development League.  He currently is a scout for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New York City native played four seasons as a forward for North Carolina State, being selected first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference in 1989.

The Sports Club will also be honoring the Girls’ State Champions from the Lord Botetourt basketball and volleyball teams.

Anyone not a member of the Sports Club and is interested in attending the meeting should call Joyce Montgomery at 354-6751, or Maggie Drewry at 353-1103 as soon as possible.

Meeting activities begin at 5:45 pm with the dinner at 6:00 pm.
