
Glenvar High School had five girls named to the Class 2 all-state soccer team that was announced this week, and all five are underclassmen.
First team selections from Glenvar include freshman Gabby Barba at forward, sophomore Ryan Jones on defense and two juniors, midfielder Sawyer Wilson and keeper Maddie Frakelton. Another junior, Annie George, was named to the second team at midfield.
Nelson County took the top honors after defeating Glenvar in a shootout to win the Class 2 state championship. Nelson senior center attacking midfielder Clara Moldenhauer is the Class 2 Player of the Year and Governors’ coach Bryan Ferren is Coach of the Year.
Moldenhauer and Ferren also took Player and Coach of the Year in Region 2C and Glenvar was well-represented as well. First team all-region from Glenvar include Barba, Wilson, Jones, George, Frackelton and defenders senior Sophie Childers and sophomore Addison Conner. Of the 16 players named to the all-region first team 14 were from Glenvar or Nelson County, with each school having seven selections.
Glenvar had four more players on the all-region second team, freshman forward Ryleigh Dickerson, junior midfielders Chloe Childers and Addalee Harvey and freshman defender Scarlett McCall.
