The three-time defending state champion Glenvar boys’ soccer team remained undefeated with two shutout wins in the past week. Glenvar was 2-0-1 with a Wednesday home game against Franklin County pending.
Last Wednesday the Highlanders were scheduled to host Auburn but a lightning storm caused that game to be postponed. A night later in Martinsville the Highlanders won their Three Rivers District opener, 4-0 over the Bulldogs.
Adam Saunders netted two goals on the night as Tyler Curfiss and Henry Schruth also scored. Parker Doolan, Jackson Jones, James Housh and Schruth recorded the assists. Glenvar outshot their hosts 20-7 as Tyler Shannon and Drew Butler combined for the shutout in the net.
On Monday of this week Glenvar shut out Carroll County at home for another district win, 8-0. Schruth recorded the hat trick as Levi King scored two goals and Curfiss, Saunders and Issac Sevilla also scored. Doolan dished out four assists and again Shannon and Butler combined for the shutout as Glenvar outshot the Cavaliers 26-2.
“I don’t think we showed up ready to play against Martinsville and the result reflected that,” said coach Josh Jones. “However, we responded well against Carroll County and the result reflected this as well. We must show up to play every game physically and mentally. Hopefully we can consistently do this moving forward.”
Tonight the Highlanders are at James River, then back home Monday to host Radford.
