The Glenvar girls had a big Three Rivers District softball win Tuesday as the Highlanders won at Radford, 13-3.

Glenvar scored one run in the first inning then broke the game open by scoring six runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. They scored five additional runs in the sixth inning to end the game with a 10 run lead. Savana Luper went the distance on the mound, striking out seven with no walks and allowing five hits.

At the plate Luper had three hits and drove in four runs. Abby Teubert had three hits, Kayleigh Saunders had two hits and Madison Duncan had two hits and drove in a run.

The win took some of the sting out of a 13-10 non-district loss to Franklin County in Rocky Mount Monday. The Highlanders outhit their hosts, 11-8, but errors were the difference in the game.

“You can overcome an error here or there, but when they are consecutive with runners on base it’s hard to overcome that,” said coach Lonnie Raines.

Teubert, Luper and Sarah Kate Tozier had three hits each for the Highlanders. Luper and Sophie McCulley split time on the mound.

Last Friday at Floyd the Highlanders thumped a traditional rival, beating the Lady Buffaloes 10-1. Glenvar took an early 2-0 lead on hits by Izzy Shearer and Duncan and never looked back. McCulley had two hits and two RBIs, Shearer had two hits and two RBIs, and Luper had two hits. McCulley went the distance on the mound, fanning 15 and allowing just one hit.

Glenvar is back in action Friday with a home game against Carroll County and on Monday they host 9-1 James River. The Highlanders are 5-7.
