The Glenvar High School boys’ cross country team delivered a commanding performance to win the Three Rivers District Championship at the Greenfield Recreation Park in Daleville last week. The Glenvar boys packed the front of the race to secure a dominant team victory, while the girls’ team earned a strong fourth-place finish.
The boys’ team was led by a razor tight finish from seniors Aldin Smith and Tyler Davis. Smith claimed the individual district crown with a time of 17:48.34, with Davis right on his heels just four one-hundredth of a second behind in 17:48.38.
Glenvar’s placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 10. Following Smith and Davis were Zachary Elijah Davis (6th, 18:24.05), Evan Harris (9th, 18:40.09) and Asher Faught (10th, 18:45.93). The team’s efforts resulted in a score of 28 points, easily securing the district title over second-place Patrick County who had 49.
In the varsity girls’ race, the Glenvar team finished fourth overall with 84 points. The team was paced by senior Everly Shanks, who earned a top-10 finish by placing 8th with a time of 23:32.27. She was closely followed by teammates Anna Hall (10th, 23:47.68) and Rayya Bryson (11th, 23:49.99). Three Rivers District foe Radford High School won the girls’ team title.
The Glenvar runners were back at Greenfield Tuesday for the Region 2C championship meet. The top three teams and top five runners not on those teams will advance to the state Class 2 meet at Green Hill Park in west Roanoke County on November 8th.
