The Glenvar Middle track team celebrated their final home meet in electrifying fashion last Wednesday, as they hosted Floyd, Central Academy, Patrick County, Radford and Carroll County.
Highlighting the evening was the girls’ 4×100 relay team, which not only shattered the school record but now holds the fastest middle school time in the State of Virginia. The team of Aaliyah Zackary, Emmy Barba, Ava Poindexter, and Reese Bodigon ran a blistering 52.38 seconds.
Ava Poindexter had a few historic performances, winning six events; breaking both the high jump (4’9) and 300-meter hurdles school records with a new state-leading time of 48.49 seconds. She now leads the state in four different events (triple jump, 100 hurdles, 4 x 100 and 300 hurdles).
Reese Bodigon captured first place in both the 100- and 200-meter races. In the 200, she was followed by Maya Poindexter, Ella Johnson, and Ryan Clemens as the girls swept the event. Additional first-place finishers included Maya Poindexter in the 400-meter dash (1:07), Jaxson Kuzmich in the mile run (5:09), and Matthew Gard in the 800-meter run (2:29). Josh Foster won the 300-meter hurdles for his third consecutive victory.
Glenvar also recently hosted the Three Rivers District Middle School Invitational and both boys and girls won team titles.
