The Glenvar High softball team isn’t planning to surrender when the Highlanders travel to Appomattox Friday. The eighth seeded Highlanders will take on the top-seeded Raiders in the opening round of the Region 2C tournament.
If Glenvar can pull the upset the Highlanders would advance to the region semifinals next Tuesday, June 2nd, against the winner of a first round game between James River and Dan River. That would be at the Botetourt Sports Complex in Daleville, as will the region championship game on June 4th.
The Highlanders wrapped up the regular season with a home game against Patrick County last week. The Cougars are the second seed in the region, and they closed out the regular season with a 16-5 win over Glenvar. This one was close for awhile, as Glenvar trailed just 7-5 after five innings, but Patrick exploded for nine runs in the top of the sixth to put it away. Audrey Moles and Haley Leginus led Glenvar with two hits each and Zella Hayes scored three runs.
With the loss Glenvar opens region play with a 5-17 record.
