The Salem High lacrosse teams will be competing in region play this week and the defending state champion boys are the top seed.
The Spartan boys, who are 13-1, will open region play tonight, Thursday, with a 6 pm game against William Byrd at Spartan Field in Salem. The Terriers won the “four-five” game over Blacksburg last week to earn a shot at Salem tonight.
If Salem wins tonight the boys’ region final will be next Tuesday, June 2nd, against the winner of a game between second seeded Jefferson Forest and third seeded E.C. Glass. That would also be played at Spartan Field.
The girls were scheduled to play Blacksburg on Wednesday at Virginia Tech’s Thompson Field. Salem took an 11-3 record into that game and the region final will also be next Tuesday at a site to be determined.
