The Glenvar swimmers will be in Christiansburg tonight to compete in the Region C meet for Class 1 & 2 teams.
The Highlander girls team will look to defend their 2020 Region 1/2C championship with state individual champions Reese Dunkenberger and Claire Griffith leading the way. A very talented team from George Wythe and deep roster of girls from Radford will be among some of the tough competition the girls will face.
The boys are led by senior Derrick Hall and sophomore Cooper Campbell, who swam on last year’s state qualifying team. The top four finishers in the region qualify for the state championship which will be held February 11th at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Last week Glenvar swam against Hidden Valley and William Byrd. On Tuesday the girls lost to Region 3D champion Hidden Valley while the boys swam their best meet of the season, narrowly losing to the Titans by only eight points.
On Wednesday night at the Gator Center the busy Highlanders had their third meet in as any nights. The defending Class 2 champion GHS girls picked up a big win against William Byrd while the boys lost to the Region 3D champion Terriers.

“Coach Daniel Smith and I were exhausted after three consecutive meets and four meets in ten days, but in this COVID-19 shortened season that’s what was put in front of us,” said Glenvar coach Shannon Hall. “The team got in some much needed competition and is better prepared to take on the post-season.”
