The Glenvar Middle School football team, consisting of seventh and eighth graders, played host to the Andrew Lewis seventh grade team last week and took a 20-0 win over the Wolverines. Glenvar got two touchdowns from Ranger Swanson and Haden Henderson scored after picking up a fumble and running it in.
“We played well on Thursday, but need to clean up the mental errors that caused some unnecessary penalties,” said Glenvar coach Neil Swanson.
Glenvar was scheduled to play Christiansburg at home on Wednesday while the ALMS seventh graders had the William Byrd B team at home on Tuesday of this week.
The Lewis 8th grade team defeated Read Mountain, 30-12, at Salem Stadium last Thursday to run their record to 3-0 on the season. The defense played a solid game despite giving up their first touchdown on the season, as the touchdowns scored by previous opponents had been the result of offensive turnovers. The defense was led by defensive ends Joseph Henderson and Aiden Hoffman.
The 30 points by the offense was the largest output in three games played. The team ran the football exceptionally well with Kyshead Arrington, Jordan McCadden and Mike Tatoute scoring touchdowns behind the focused blocking of the Lewis line.
The Wolverines will travel to William Byrd tonight to play the Terriers.
