
The Glenvar and Salem volleyball teams both opened the season with wins this week as the high school season gets underway.
Glenvar opened Monday at home with a three set win over Craig County, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-11. Sophia Hammersley had nine kills and freshman Emily Rohrback dished out 22 assists.
On Tuesday the Highlanders made it two in a row with a three set win at Northside. Glenvar trailed 18-10 in the first set but rallied to win it 25-23, then took the next two 25-10 and 25-14. Grace Fiedler had nine kills, Macy McMahon had five kills and Emily Rohrback had nine serving aces.
Salem opened at home on Monday and eased by Roanoke Catholic in three sets, 25-7, 25-20 and 25-12. Olivia Crosswhite had nine aces, Emme Custer had six kills and Parker Price had four.
Both teams are back in action tonight, Thursday. Salem is back home to host Northside and the Highlanders are in Vinton to meet William Byrd.
