The defending Class 2 state champion Glenvar Highlanders were tested last week when they played a solid Class 2 Magna Vista team at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville. Glenvar pulled out a 1-0 win to stay unbeaten after two games.

The game was still scoreless with less than eight minutes to go in regulation when Wesley Feliciano earned a corner kick. Seth Nichols took the kick and Aidan Hylton headed it home for the only goal of the game.

Grayson Shepherd made three saves in the net as Glenvar outshot the Warriors 11-5. Jake Williams, Cooper Mullins, Tyler Curfiss, Alan Vu, Gavin Miller, and Zack Adams led the backline for the shutout.
This was Glenvar’s 40th straight game without a loss with the last loss coming on April 7 of 2023, a 2-1 loss to Salem at Spartan Field. Glenvar hasn’t given up a goal in almost a year, with the last goal scored on the Highlanders coming on May 1st of last year when Glenvar beat James River, 7-1.

“This is not our goal, but impressive of what the guys in our program have been able to accomplish over the years through their hard work and commitment,” said coach Josh Jones. “This was a really tough physical game for us that chal-lenged us not just physically but mentally as well. Magna Vista played with great inten-sity which we had to match the second half. It was a playoff type atmosphere which is great for us to be in. There is a lot to learn from this game which we will try to do moving forward in our season.”

The Highlanders are off this week for spring break, returning April 2nd for their home opener against Franklin County.
