Glenvar tennis teams shut out Bulldogs

Glenvar number one Christian Hill hits a shot at the net in Monday’s win over Martinsville.

The Glenvar tennis teams swept Martinsville on Monday, with the boys winning on the GHS courts and the girls winning in Martinsville.

The boys won 9-0 to improve to 7-3 on the season. Glenvar started the season 6-0 but lost the next three, includ ing a 9-0 loss to Floyd County last week.

The girls lost to Floyd 8-1, with Aubrey Board earning Glenvar’s point. On Monday in Martinsville the Bulldogs only had four players so Glenvar won three points by forfeit in a 9-0 victory. Shawna Garwood, Rebecca Magruder, Emma Peters and Lucy Bolling had singles wins. On the dou bles side, Rayah Kelley and Julia Carroll, along with Chelsea Garwood and Cay Jones, claimed victories. The girls’ record is now 6-4 with six matches remaining.

“Our goal is to finish strong and position our selves to make a regional tournament run,” said coach Shannon Hall.
