Hanging Rock Tavern at 1790 Thompson Memorial Drive in Salem has permanently closed, and its property has been sold to the owners of The Homeplace Restaurant, according to public announcements made by both businesses on social media on Sunday.
The announcement came after the tavern’s final evening of business, during which management thanked customers, staff, entertainers and vendors for their support over the years.
"Last night was super fun! Thank you to all who joined us!" the tavern wrote, also thanking the band Phat Anchovies and That Guy’s Food Truck for helping mark its final night.
In its announcement, Hanging Rock Tavern expressed gratitude to its loyal customers, musicians, comedians, vendors and employees.
"We will miss you all and hope that we have the opportunity to serve you again sometime in the future," the post said.
The Homeplace Restaurant also publicly confirmed the sale and thanked the Hanging Rock Tavern team for its years of service to the community.
"It has truly been our pleasure to take this next chapter forward," the restaurant wrote. "We want to thank the Hanging Rock Tavern team for the heart, dedication, and memories you’ve created over the years. We know this place means so much to the community, and we are honored to carry that legacy into an exciting new season."
The Homeplace Restaurant said it looks forward to sharing more about its plans for the property and serving the community in the years ahead. Neither announcement included details about the sale, a timeline for reopening or future renovations.

Our vision for the space is a mixed-use concept that will allow The Homeplace to expand its catering operations while also serving as the production home for a new line of Homeplace-branded products.
