High school football practice started last week for area teams and this week the pads come on with preseason scrimmages just over a week away.
Salem High will scrimmage Norfolk’s Maury High School, a Class 5 school from the Eastern District, on Friday, August 14, at 11 a.m.. That scrimmage will be held at Fork Union Military Academy.
The Spartans’ second scrimmage will be at home. Salem will host Amherst County in a Benefit Game on Friday, August 21, at 7 p.m. at Salem Stadium. The Spartans open the season at E.C. Glass on August 28 with a 7 p.m. game at Lynchburg’s City Stadium.
Glenvar will host Jefferson Forest and William Byrd in a 5 p.m. scrimmage on Friday, August 14. Then the Highlanders will be in Blacksburg for their second scrimmage on August 21 before opening the regular season against Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg on August 28.
Andrew Lewis Middle School will host a football jamboree this Wednesday at Salem Stadium. The Wolverines will open the season August 13 with a seventh- and eighth-grade doubleheader at home against Patrick Henry. The seventh grade will play at 5 p.m. followed by the eighth grade game at 6:30 p.m. at Salem Stadium.
Glenvar Middle School will also open at home on August 13. at 6:30 p.m. at Highlander Stadium.
