Last week’s football contest was a tight one. Several contestants missed just two games, sending it to the points to break the tie.

Virginia Tech had the high point total of the week with 64 against East Carolina. The closest to that total, among the contestants with two losses, was Mike Cassell of Salem. He picked 55 as the high total and that was the closest to Tech’s 64, so he’s our winner.

For last week’s “One for the Road” question I asked you to pick who would run for the most yards in the NFL last week. We had a lot of guesses, including Jim Brown, John Riggins and Alan “The Horse” Ameche. Others receiving votes included Ezekiel Elliot(a bunch of folks had him, and he had 8 total yards rushing), Marshawn Lynch(45 yards), Melvin Gordon(13), Kareem Hunt(81), Adrian Peterson(26), LeSean McCoy(9), Terrance West(22) and DeMarco Murray(25). Also receiving votes were Pierre Garcon, who is a receiver, and LenDale White, who I’m pretty sure is retired.

Boy, is that a bad week for rushers or what? The correct answer would have been Carlos Hyde of San Francisco with 124 yards, and against a tough Seahawks defense in Seattle no less! He was one of just three players over 100, as Jay Ajayi of Miami had 122 and C.J. Anderson of Denver had 118 against Dallas, or 110 more than Elliott on the other side of the field.

Since no one picked the winner we’ll give the atlas to Christ. Smith of Homestead Drive in Salem, who picked Kareem Hunt. He had the most yards of anyone guessed despite being 10th on the week.

For this week’s “One for the Road,” tell me who will have the most passing yards in the NFL this week, and how many. That might be a little easier.

Hint. Last week it was Tom Brady.       –Brian Hoffman
