Salem’s Fielding Logan contributed this photo of the undefeated 1952 Lions Club American Legion football team. The team played on Wednesday nights in the fall at Salem Municipal Field, which is now Billy Sample Field at Kiwanis Park. The photo appeared in the Salem Times –Register and was taken by Earl Barnett. First names of the players were not provided in the caption but some of the senior football fans may remember a few of these former gridiron legends. There were eight names mentioned for nine players in the front row but Fielding is number 11 and others were named Noloer, Zehring, Howell, Chapman, (Fielding) Logan, Wesley, Puckett and Obeirne. Back Row, left to right, are coach “Gob” Garrett, Birch, Franklin, Brown, Young, Edwards, Hawley, Tarpley, Bowling and Mask. Manager Danny Garrett is sitting in the front. If you have any old sports pictures like this feel free to bring them by our office at 1633 West Main in Salem for publication consideration.
