The Roanoke College baseball team improved to 16-11-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the ODAC when the Maroons swept Washington & Lee at Cap’n Dick Smith Field in Lexington last Saturday. The Maroons won the opener 7-5 in 10 innings then took the nightcap, 6-2.
Trevor Orth pitched the last two innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. Tyler Galloway drove in three on two hits and added a walk to help propel the Roanoke offense.
RC needed just two pitchers in game two. Mason Roy got his first start of the year and went four innings, surrendering just two runs and striking out two. Jackson Murphy then came in to finish off the game and grab the winning decision. Murphy allowed just six baserunners in five innings while striking out four.
Danny Ferguson and Nate Prince each recorded three hits to lead the squad. Prince went a perfect 3-3 in game two. Parker Stallard and Hayden Giordano also had a multi-hit game.
The Maroons were scheduled to play Averett on Tuesday and this Saturday they’re home for a “Senior Day” doubleheader against Hampden-Sydney. The first game at Salem Memorial Ballpark will start at noon.
