The Kiwanis Club of Salem is paying tribute to one of its most dedicated members by renaming its annual golf tournament in her honor. The inaugural Lisa Bain Kiwanis Club of Salem Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Monday, April 14, at Roanoke Country Club.
Lisa Bain, a lifelong Salem resident, passed away in October 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Known for her boundless energy and commitment to community service, Bain was instrumental in organizing many of the area’s fundraising events—especially golf tournaments.
“Lisa gave so much to this community and valley for so many years, and we felt it was important to honor such a loving, hardworking individual,” said Kiwanis Club President Eddie Hite. “Renaming the tournament was one way to carry her legacy forward.”
Bain, known to many from her school days as Lisa Poff, was a Glenvar High School and Radford University graduate. She was deeply involved in the community through her work with ServPro’s marketing department and many civic organizations. Friends and colleagues often referred to her as “an energizer bunny that never stopped.”
This year’s tournament is already full, with over 28 teams signed up to play. The event begins with lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Hite noted that while registration is closed, the club is still accepting sponsorships and door prize donations.
Proceeds from the tournament will support the club’s scholarship fund and youth-oriented projects. Among these is a new $2,500 scholarship established in Lisa Bain’s name by one of her Glenvar High School classmates. The scholarship is open to graduates of either Glenvar or Salem High School, and information is available on the club’s website.
“We’re excited by the outpouring of support for this tournament,” said Hite. “The Bain family is especially grateful and will be present at the event.”
In addition to the tournament, the Kiwanis Club of Salem continues its year-round commitment to youth through programs such as the Salem Christmas Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, Fishing Rodeo, Salem After 5 events, and food drives. The club is actively seeking new members who share their passion for service.
“We’re always working to put a smile on a child’s face,” Hite said. “Whether it’s handing out popcorn or helping fund scholarships, we’re here to serve.”
The club meets every Tuesday at the Salem Civic Center, and all are welcome to join.
