The Roanoke College softball team will host back-to-back doubleheaders this weekend at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem. The Maroons will take on Bridgewater College for two games on Saturday, beginning at 1 pm, then play two against Christopher-Newport on Sunday, with the first game scheduled for 3 pm.

Roanoke comes into the weekend at 14-10 overall and 5-3 in the ODAC after splitting a doubleheader with Randolph College at the Moyer Complex last Sunday. Both ends of the twinbill resulted in shutouts with the Maroons winning the opener, 5-0, but losing the second game to the WildCats, 7-0.

Senior Maggie McCray broke her own school record for strikeouts in a game with 17 in the first game. McCray struck out 15 batters on March 4 against the University of Mary Washington to claim the school record for strikeouts in a game, which stood for less than a month. On Sunday Maggie recorded her first seven outs via strikeout and struck out three batters in the first, second and fourth frames and two each in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Maroons loaded the bases in the fourth and pushed across the game’s first run on a Molly Epperson groundout. RC provided McCray more cushion than she’d need with a four-run fifth inning. The big blow was a Jocelyne Rinker three-run double.

In game two the WildCats scored four in the second, one in the sixth and two in the seventh. Austyn Moran allowed just five hits to earn a shutout victory for Randolph. Adriana Rivera had a triple for Roanoke and Lindsay Gedro threw five innings out of the bullpen, allowing one earned run.
