ROBBINS, Dr. Jean

Dr. Jean Robbins of Buchanan passed away on May 4, 2017.

She was the widow of the late Malcolm Robbins of Roanoke and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Carothers of Rock Hill, S.C.

Survivors are her daughters Cathy Ray (and husband Bill) and Leslie Spigle (and husband David). Her grandchildren are Tyler Ray (and wife Monica); Hunter Ray; Sydney Wills (and husband Nate); Camden Spigle and Carter Spigle. Jean’s brothers and sisters are the late John Carothers; Ted Carothers; Woody Carothers; Anne Couick and Patricia Thompson. Other survivors are beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Jean was a native of Rock Hill, S.C. She graduated from Winthrop University, the University of North Carolina and Virginia Tech. She served as an Extension Agent in Roanoke County for 23 years. Jean served on numerous volunteer boards, charitable and professional organizations. She co-authored a book presenting the historical story of two Fincastle natives of the 1800s.

From her humble beginning in Rock Hill, S.C., Jean often expressed her gratefulness for God’s pathway for her life with loving parents and siblings, devoted husband, and daughters with their families. Her priority was to keep God, family, and country in focus.

The family will have a private graveside service. A celebration of life will be held on May 13 at 1 p.m. at Fincastle Baptist Church. The family requests that contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse in lieu of flowers.
