The Salem and Glenvar High School tennis teams will be the first to enter conference post-season play among the spring sports teams. Conference 24 play begins this week and Conference 38 tennis opens Monday.

Salem’s girls were scheduled to open Conference 24 play Wednesday at home against Carroll County. If the Spartans won they’ll advance to semifinal play Thursday at William Byrd, the second seed in the tournament. The championship is Friday at the top remaining seed.

The Salem boys got a first round bye as the top seed in the conference. They’ll host a match today, Thursday, and the championship is Friday, and if Salem is in it the Spartans will be home.

Singles and Doubles championships for Conference 24 will be next week, May 16 and 17. The boys are at Bassett and the girls will be at William Fleming.

Last week Salem’s boys beat Christiansburg, 9-0, but lost to Blacksburg, 5-4. The girls lost to Patrick Henry and Blacksburg, both by scores of 7-2.

Conference 38 tennis will begin Monday with boys quarterfinal action, and Glenvar will be at home. The girls, with fewer teams, will go straight to semifinals and finals on Tuesday at Martinsville. The boys semifinals and finals will be next Wednesday at Martinsville.
