The Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team advanced to 8-1 in ODAC play as they took down Eastern Mennonite, 23-4, on Senior Day at Kerr Stadium last Saturday.
The Maroons came out firing, working their way to an 11-1 advantage by the end of the first period. Eastern Mennonite adjusted a bit in the second, but Roanoke kept it going with a 5-2 scoring advantage to make it 16-3 at the half.
Senior Sydney Harrison became the program’s all-time games played leader as she hit 78 career appearances with her start. The midfielder broke Lilly Blair’s ’23 record of 77. Maddie McDonald led all Roanoke scorers yet again as she tallied six goals in the game. Raegan Becker was the next closest scorer with three goals and Becker also tallied an assist to bring her point total to four.
Grace Koutouzis recorded two goals and three assists for five points. Her three helpers moved her up to second in career assists in the program record book, surpassing Gina Valles . Koutouzis’ total now sits at 133 career assists.
The win lifted RC to 11-5 on the season and 8-1 in ODAC games. Roanoke was scheduled to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday of this week with an ODAC game in Winchester against Shenandoah University.
The first round of the ODAC tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday with first round games. The second round is Tuesday with semifinals on May 2nd and the championship at the site of the highest remaining seed on Sunday, May 4. Roanoke is currently second in the ODAC behind 10-0 Washington & Lee, the only conference team to beat the Maroons.
This week sophomore Maddie McDonald was selected as the USA Lacrosse Division III Player of the Week as announced by the organization on Tuesday. McDonald earns the honor after accounting for nearly a third of Roanoke’s goals last week as she tallied seven against Lynchburg and six versus Eastern Mennonite.
McDonald was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this week.
