The Glenvar boys soccer team is still undefeated but no longer unscored upon. Glenvar gave up a goal for the first time in a 13-1 win over Floyd, the first time an opponent has breached the Glenvar net in 17 games, dating back to last season.
“Giving up the goal was tough but there were a lot of things to learn from it,” said coach Josh Jones. “It’s really tough to get a shutout in soccer and for this group to do it so many times in a row is unheard of.”
The Highlanders won twice last week to improve to 8-0 on the season. They won at Auburn last Wednesday, 3-0, as Aidan Hylton scored on a penalty kick and Wesley Feliciano and Kian Fisher also scored.
“This was a really solid road victory for us as we had to find different ways to earn goals,” said Jones. “I’m glad we were able to convert on some of our opportunities and defeat a good Auburn team.”
The following day Glenvar hosted Floyd County and outshot them 35-5 in the 13-1 win. Feliciano had three goals and Hylton had two.
Glenvar will be back on the pitch tonight to host James River in a Three Rivers District game. Monday’s scheduled game with Alleghany was postponed and rescheduled for May 8.
