Road work tied to safety improvements at the intersection of Apperson Drive and Orchard Drive will begin Monday, March 16, prompting overnight closures and traffic shifts in the area.

Weather permitting, Orchard Drive will be closed between Apperson Drive and Tremont Road for drainage work for three nights beginning the evening of March 16. The closure will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night, with a detour in place. The road is expected to reopen by 7 a.m. Thursday, March 19.

Beginning Friday, March 20, traffic will also be shifted on eastbound Apperson Drive (U.S. Route 11) heading toward Route 419 (Electric Road) in Salem. The shift is expected to remain in place through May 15. Apperson Drive will remain open during the project.

Electronic message boards and signs will be posted to alert drivers to the upcoming changes and will be updated with the most current schedule.

The project includes installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Apperson Drive and Orchard Drive that will be coordinated with the nearby signal on Route 419. A new right-turn lane from eastbound Apperson Drive onto southbound Orchard Drive will also be added.

In addition, eastbound Apperson Drive approaching Orchard Drive will be reconfigured to provide separate right-turn, through and left-turn lanes.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall 2026.
