The Roanoke College baseball team hosted two doubleheaders last weekend and won three of four games to improve to 3-4 on the season. Salem High grad Caleb Lingenfelter, a senior at Roanoke College, got the Maroons off to a good start when he pitched a complete game victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Dickinson College last Friday at Salem Memorial Ballpark. Lingenfelter pitched all seven innings, fanning four and allowing just two earned run in a 4-3 Maroon win.
After Dickinson tied the score in the fifth inning Roanoke got a walk-off RBI single by Conner Butler in the bottom of the seventh to score Nate Chown from second for the win. Dickinson took a 10-5 win in the nightcap Friday to earn a split on the day. The Red Devils led 7-5 after six innings and added three runs in the top of the seventh while keeping Roanoke off the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning. On Sunday the Maroons swept visiting Elizabethtown, 6-4 and 10-7. In the opener Jonny Wall and Mason Staz had two hits each to lead the Maroons and Staz knocked in two runs.
Aiden Kuhle earned the win in relief, pitching three innings with four strikeouts and allowing just one hit. In the second game Staz stayed hot with three more hits. Evan Parks picked up the win in relief as Roanoke sent nine different pitchers to the mound with only starter Jack Robinson pitching more than one inning. He went two. The Maroons expect to take advantage of the pitching depth this weekend as they play three more games in two days, all at Salem Memorial as part of a four team round robin. On Saturday they host Franklin & Marshall at 10 am and Brockport at 6 pm, with Franklin & Marshall meeting Marietta at 2 pm. On Sunday Brockport will play Franklin & Marshall at 10 am, Marietta will play Brockport at 2 pm and Roanoke will host Marietta at 6 pm
