Porter Stanley rebounds for RC.

The Roanoke College basketball teams will be back in action to start the New Year after hosting holiday events this week.

Both the men’s and women’s teams hosted tournaments on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30, but results were too late for early holiday deadlines. The men hosted the Cregger Invitational and the women were hosts to the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. Look for results in next week’s edition.

The men came into the week at 6-3 after splitting two games in the Hampden-Sydney Classic on December 19 and 20. RC lost to the University of Redlands, 79-60, but bounced back to defeat Wilson College a day later, 104-69.

In the win over Wilson the Maroons scored 25-straight points to ease to the win. RC led 8-7 four minutes into the game and used the 25-0 run over the next seven minutes to forge a 33-7 advantage. Jackson Bell led RC with 17 points. Zach Rostenthal had four threes and 13 points and was named to the All-Classic team.

Marcus Morgan posted 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in just 16 minutes on the court against Wilson. Grant Hamilton sank all four of his shots for 11 points and Patrick Clevenger added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

After this week’s Cregger Invitational the Maroon men will be off for a week, returning January 7th for an ODAC game in Winchester against Shenandoah University.

The Roanoke women came into the week at 4-4 and had not played since splitting two games in the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic on December 15 and 16. The women are home to host Warren Wilson at 2 pm this Saturday, then they’ll take on Bridgewater College in an ODAC game at the Cregger Center in Salem on January 8th.
