
McCadden is first team RB, kick returner in Region 4D
For the first time in recent memory the Salem High football team was not represented on either the first or second team when the all-state football team was announced.
The Virginia High School League recently released the Class 4 all-state team and state champion Varina dominated with six first team selections, sweeping the top honors. Varina junior quarterback Kaleb Wyche is the Class 4 Offensive Player of the Year, and Varina junior defensive lineman JaySean Richardson is the Class 4 Defensive Player of the Year. Varina head coach Marcus Lewis is the Class 4 Coach of the Year.
Salem had a solid representation on the All-Region 4D team, including junior Jordan McCadden at both runningback and kick returner on the first team offense. Sophomore Jake James was named to the second team on the offensive line and senior Tolin Saul was named to the second team at linebacker. The region named Honorable Mention selections and Salemintes include James on the defensive line and junior Tanner Overstreet at punter.
Junior quarterback Owen Neal of James Wood was named the region Offensive Player of the Year, senior lineman Chris Law of GW-Danville is the region Defensive Player of the year and Jefferson Forest’s JT Crews is the Coach of the year.
Salem was well-represented on the All-River Ridge District team. First team offense included James on the line and McCadden at both runningback and kick return. On defense first team Salemites include James on the line, Saul at linebacker, Jamari Hairston at defensive end and Nick Baxley at punt return.
Second teamers on offense are Michael Crawley at tight end, Ethan Millard and Kevin Easley on the line, Saul at runningback and Baxley at kick return. Second team all-district on defense are Robert Herndon on the line, Jamalaci Law at end, Gabe Johnson at linebacker and Overstreet at punter.
Honorable Mention goes to Kafur Gulfan and Alex Regan on the offensive line, DaVon Jones at linebacker and McCadden at defensive back.
