The Roanoke College baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference by a poll of conference coaches. The Maroons are scheduled to open the season on Wednesday, February 18, at Greensboro College.
RC earned 51 points in the poll, putting them seven points ahead of seventh ranked Guilford and 11 points behind fifth ranked Hampden-Sydney. The University of Lynchburg earned nine first place votes to place them atop the preseason poll. The Maroons finished fifth last season under first year head coach Brett Kaminski.
Beginning this spring, the RC baseball team will honor the life and legacy of the late Eddie Kaufman through the establishment of the Eddie Kaufman Legacy Award. The award is an honor that will be bestowed upon a Maroon each year that best embodies Eddie’s work ethic, selflessness, and team-first spirit. That Maroon will then wear Eddie’s number 3 jersey for the season.
Kaufman lost his battle with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October of 2025. Eddie’s spirit and courage inspired hundreds of Maroons to turn out for a National Bone Marrow drive last April in the hopes of finding a match.
This season, junior outfielder Dylan Bonzon has been selected to carry on Eddie’s legacy and wear number 3. The first RC home games will be Saturday, February 21, when the Maroons host Alfred State College in a doubleheader at 11 am at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
