Roanoke College lax thumps Hampden-Sydney

Roanoke College used a nine goal second-half on the way to a 13-6 ODAC lacrosse win over Hampden-Sydney during the College’s Alumni Weekend. A large crowd was on had on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Salem.

In a low scoring first-half, RC led 2-1 after the first quarter after getting goals from Brendan Devane and Steven Jackson in the first 15 minutes of action. Peter Lindley scored with just under 12 minutes to play in the half to make it a 3-1 game.

With the score 3-2, IV Stucker tallied a goal to put RC up 4-2, before H-SC scored the final goal of the half to send the teams to the locker room with the Maroons up 4-3.

Chad Fisher scored 16 seconds into the second-half to push the Maroon 5-3. With RC leading 6-5, a Kevin Jackson goal with eight minutes to play in the third sparked a four goal run to close the quarter and send RC to the fourth up 10-5.

Jackson scored with 10:39 to go in the game to make it 11-5 and then he and Lindley scored 24 seconds apart later in the quarter to seal the win. Lindley had four goals and one assist for five points on the day. Jackson finished with three goals, while Jason Sarro scored once and dished out three assists in the win.

Ian Davies made 13 stops in the cage for Roanoke, while Fisher won 8-of-12 face-offs on the day and picked up a team-high five groundballs.

The win lifted the Maroons to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the ODAC. Roanoke was scheduled to host Shenandoah at 7 pm Wednesday, followed by a trip to Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon. Salem High grad James Mahan is a member of the Randolph-Macon team.
