The Roanoke College women held off Bridgewater for a 9-8 ODAC lacrosse win Saturday afternoon during Alumni Weekend in Salem. The win was the third in a row for the Maroons after opening the season with nine straight losses.

Lainey Decker gave Roanoke an early 1-0 lead finding the back of the net off a free position shot just under one minute into the contest. After BC evened the game at 1-1, Roanoke went on a 5-1 run with as five different Maroons scored in the last 20 minutes of the first half, capped by a goal from Mckenna Polak, assisted by Courtney McCartin, with 1:25 left.

Bridgewater answered with a goal from Kristen Stark in the final 20 seconds of the half to make it a 6-3 game in favor of Roanoke at the intermission.

Roanoke held off the Eagles keeping a two-goal advantage throughout the final 27 minutes of regulation after six back and forth scoring plays. Morgan Barlow closed out the scoring for the Maroons with a goal at the 24 minute mark to give RC a 9-6 lead.

Bridgewater scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the contest but Roanoke held off the Eagles securing the win. Emma Blair made nine saves on the day including a stop as time expired, while Rachel Gruber made five for the Eagles. Decker and McCartin each recorded a team-high two goals.

Roanoke was scheduled to travel to Guilford on Wednesday for a conference match-up with the Quakers. The Maroons are at Lynchburg College on Friday.
