The Salem High baseball team remains undefeated heading into spring break. Salem is 6-0 after wins over Patrick Henry and Christiansburg at Kiwanis Field last week.

Salem played Patrick Henry on Wednesday and took a 12-4 win over the visiting Patriots. Hunter Clifton drove in three runs with a double and a single and also picked up the win on the mound. Clifton pitched five innings.

Trevor Gallagher and Caleb Lingenfelter had two hits each for the Spartans also drove in runs.

A day later the Spartans took on a red hot Christiansburg team and cooled the Blue Demons off with a 4-0 shutout win.

Salem scored four runs in the bottom of the first on a variety of Christiansburg walks, hit batters and errors, and that’s all the Spartans would need behind the pitching of Zian Honaker and Hunter Tensen. Honaker allowed just one hit over three innings and Tensen pitched the final four frames, yielding two hits to pick up the win.

Salem had a triple play in the sixth inning. Shortstop Joe Quinn snagged a hot liner and Salem caught runners on second and first before they could get back to the bag. Lingenfelter had two more hits for the Spartans.

Salem is off for spring break this week, returning Tuesday, April 10, with a game at Hidden Valley.
