The River Ridge District volleyball tournament is being held this week but the Salem team is not included despite finishing the season 11-9. The district tournament includes just the top four teams in the district and Salem was not in that group.
The Spartans finished 3-9 in the very tough River Ridge while going 8-0 in non-district match. Salem finished the regular season with a district win when the Spartans hosted Pulaski last week and won in three sets for a big “Senior Night” victory. Salem won 25-18, 25-11 and 25-9 as they honored seniors Mia Esworthy, Ella Walker, Reese Redford, Sydney Price, Autumn Bailey and Kai Bowen.
Redford led the Spartans in kills with six, and she also had 10 digs and a couple blocks. Bowen had five kills and four aces and Walker had four kills, six blocks and an ace. Junior Makenzie Board led the team with 121 assists and also had nine digs and three aces.
Salem will next compete in the Region 4D tournament. That’s scheduled for next week but times and opponents were yet to be decided at press time.
