The Hidden Valley Country Club was the site for the fourth River Ridge District match of the season Monday and there were some low scores on a beautiful late summer day.
Hidden Valley junior Harris Camp took home the medalist spot, firing a season best five-under-par 66 and Blacksburg took home the team title, finishing seven strokes ahead of the field. Salem finished second with a season’s best 301.
“We finally got four scores in the 70s on the same day,” said Spartan coach Blaine Hancock. “We’ve had all six of our players post a 78 or better in at least one tournament this year, but we hadn’t been able to get it all together until now.”
Salem saw four players finish in the top 20 on the day. The Spartans were led by junior Ashnoor Kaur who finished third on the day with a one-under 70. Sophomore Mike Bateman fired a 75 while collecting three birdies and freshman McKenzie Eversole finished had a 77. Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Croix Bowen with a 79.
“I’m proud of our effort,” said Hancock. “The best part was after the round this group was coming up with practice plans on how to improve and score even better going forward. We have a special group that is always striving for better. We are heading in the right direction with three tournaments left before we begin postseason play.”
The RRD tour goes to Hunting Hills next Monday, September 15.
