Salem High girls tie for team title in Colonel Classic

Glenvar’s Dustin Wade ran to a 12th place finish in the 1600 m race (4:54.15).
Salem’s Izzy Donahue takes the baton from Madison Baxley in the 4×800 m relay. The Spartan girls placed 5th overall with a time of 11:21.68 on Saturday at the Colonel Classic.

The Salem and Glenvar track teams competed in the annual Colonel Classic at William Fleming High School Saturday. Salem’s girls finished in a tie for first for the team championship with the host Colonels.

Earning points for Salem were the 4×100 relay team of Te’Asia Thomas, Te’Arah Thomas, Tawni Hunt and ShaCoya Price, who finished first with a time of 51.18. Price also won the long jump and took second in the triple jump. Janae Blakeney was third in the long jump, third in the 100 and second in the 200 and the 4×800 relay was fifth with Madison Baxley, Alexis Stover, Izzy Donahue and Alyssa Ingerson.

The Glenvar girls were 10th overall.  Rachel Millirons was second in the 1600 and third in the 3200 while Terrica Moorman was second in the high jump and fifth in the 300 hurdles.

William Fleming won the boys’ title outright, with Blacksburg taking second. Glenvar was 13th and Salem was 22nd.

Killian McCroskey was second in the 400 for Glenvar and ran on the fourth place 4×800 relay team with Peyton Fletcher, Dustin Wade and Van Hoffman. For Salem, Sean Tyree was sixth in the 400m dash.

Salem also ran in a five team meet at Patrick Henry last week. The Salem girls won the meet as Price took first in the long and triple jumps. Blakeney won the 100 and Raniyah Majied took the 800. Salem also won the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 relays.

For the boys, Tyree won the 400 and Salem’s 4×800 relay team was first. Thomas Mundy was second in the shot and discus while Maxwell Plummer took third in the shot. Jeremiah Wilson was third in the 100 high hurdles.

Glenvar had a meet at Auburn last week with five teams competing, Auburn, Floyd County, Craig County James River and the Highlanders. The Glenvar boys were first and girls took second.

McCroskey won the 400 and Dustin Wade took the 800. The boys also won the 4×400 with McCroskey, Wade, Hoffman and Bradey Loder.

Glenvar had a home meet on Wednesday of this week, but results were too late for publication. Both the Glenvar and Salem teams will participate in the All-American Relays at Radford on Friday.
