
Salem Stadium was the site of the annual Sandlot Super Bowl games last week and the Salem 10U team, coached by Clint Wininger and assistants, was the runnerup.
The Salem 10U team was the second seed. Undefeated Cave Spring was the top seed and Cave Spring beat Salem in the final, 16-6. Cave Spring led just 8-6 at the half when Salem’s Myles Barber ran 60 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first half. There were 12 teams in the tournament and Salem finished second.
The Botetourt Cavaliers opened the day with a 13-6 win over Franklin County in the 8U championship. In the third game of the day two Cave Spring teams were in the final and the Ellis-coached team won in overtime. Former Salem High player Dan Baker coached the other Cave Spring team.
