The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) have announced their 2022 All State Wrestling teams and Roanoke College had a first team selection, Mahlic Sallah, in the first year of intercollegiate competition for the Maroons.
Sallah earned 1st team honors in the 184 weight class. The junior came to Roanoke mid-semester and made an immediate impact in the first-year program. In early February, Sallah won the 2022 Southeast Wrestling Conference (SEWC) title and brought home the SEWC Most Outstanding Wrestler Award (165-285). Later that month, Mahlic used back-to-back major decisions to earn a spot in the finals of the NCAA Southeast Regional. In that championship match, Sallah punched his ticket to the NCAA National Cahmpionships with a 7-4 decision to take the 184 title.
At the National Championships, Sallah finished seventh at his weight class and was named a 2022 NCAA All-American, the first in the young program’s history.
