The Salem High tennis teams will have their work cut out for them when they take on Blacksburg Friday. The boys will be at Blacksburg and the girls will be home.

The girls were 3-1 after splitting two matches last week. Salem beat Patrick Henry, 5-4, with Izzy Danstrom, Abbie Hoback and Eliza East winning in singles. Danstrom and Pugh won at first doubles and Hoback and East won at number three as Salem edged the Pats.

On Thursday Salem had two girls missing, including Danstrom, as the Spartans lost to the Blue Demons. Ashlyn Pugh played number one and won and Reece Owen won at number six.

The boys are 3-1 after winning both their matches last week. Salem beat PH, 7-2, with Mladen Vukovic, Johnny Danstrom, Alex Anama, Dejo Markovic and Jake Johnson all winning in singles. Doubles winners were the teams of Vukovic and Danstrom and the duo of Johnson and Ryan Walters.

Salem beat Christiansburg, 8-1. Danstrom, Anama, Markovic, Walters and Johnson all won singles and Salem swept the doubles, with Ben Kessell and Nick Poff playing at number three.

Salem played Carroll County Tuesday but results were too late for publication. Next Monday the boys are at Cave Spring and on Tuesday the girls host Cave Spring.
