The Salem High lacrosse teams are taking on top competition this week as both teams played Albemarle on Wednesday and the boys were in Charlottesville Tuesday to take on St. Anne’s-Belfield, the top ranked high school team in the state. Salem lost to St. Anne’s, 16-6, but the Spartans didn’t go without a fight.
“We had a lot to learn from,” said Salem coach George Revercomb. “We’ll use that experience to continue to improve.”
Salem fell to 5-2 with the loss. They received a forfeit win from Christiansburg last week.
The girls did play Christiansburg and routed the Blue Demons, 24-0 at Spartan Field. Rylee McNeill led Salem with five goals and two assists while Mia Potter had four goals and six assists. Anne Thomas had four goals, Bailey Redford came out of her usual spot in the goal to score three times and Madison Southern had a goal and three assists.
“We had 33 shots on goal and scored 24,” said Salem coach Mary Schwartz.
With the win Salem evened their record at 3-3.
