Supreme Court Historical Society executive director speaks at Roanoke College

Supreme Court Historical Society Executive Director James Duff visited Roanoke College last week. He spoke to over 100 people on the campus to mark Constitution Day and celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the nation’s foundational document. The crowd included students, family and members of the regional legal community. The address centered on the history of the high court and the importance of preserving an independent judiciary. Duff also quoted Thomas Jefferson’s hopes of the new nation cultivating an educated citizenry. He urged listeners to stay informed about the workings of government, seek out facts and not fall prey to forces that strive to divide people. Younger generations can help lead the way in that work, he added. “Students, I think, can be engaged in educating friends and others about how important it is,” Duff said. “… People need to pay attention.” -The Salem Times-Register
