Spartan coach Lawrence Van Liew(right) is congratulated after recording his 100th dual win as Salem High coach.

The high school wrestling teams will be back in action this weekend as both Salem and Glenvar are entered in the “Takedown the New Year” Invitational at Heritage High in Lynchburg on Saturday.

This will be Salem’s first action since December 17 when the Spartans defeated William Byrd in a dual match, 46-30. The win marked Lawrence Van Liew’s 100th dual match win as head coach at Salem High School.

That same night Glenvar lost a dual match at Rural Retreat, 45-25. Glenvar wrestled in a big tournament in Newark, Delaware on December 20 and finished 105th out of 200 teams.

“We had most of our guys win matches in Newark,” said Glenvar coach Tim Miles.

Robert Herndon finishes off Salem High’s wrestling win over William Byrd with a pin at 285.
